The best time to use Claude Code
Short answer: outside the weekday 5–11 AM Pacific window (8 AM–2 PM Eastern, 2–8 PM in Central Europe). Off-peak, work runs smoother with fewer failures and retries — so your limits go further. Below is a heatmap of real sessions in your time zone and practical advice for planning your work.

Anthropic’s stated peak window
12 PM–6 PM
Weekdays, 5–11 AM Pacific, shown in UTC. In March 2026 Anthropic said 5-hour limits drain faster during these hours; on May 6, 2026 that reduction was removed for Claude Code on Pro and Max, but it remains the busiest part of the day.

How to plan around the peak
Heavy work in quiet hours
Multi-step agent tasks — refactoring a module, running a migration, generating tests — fire many requests in a row. During the peak they take longer and are more likely to hit overload errors. Run them in the European morning, late evening in the Americas, or at the weekend.
Short loops during the peak
Reviewing a diff, targeted edits and questions about code tolerate latency better. If a reply is slow, don’t resend the prompt — it only lengthens the queue and burns your limit.
Unattended runs at night
Jobs that don’t need you can run headless with claude -p "…" from a script or on a schedule (cron, CI) during quiet hours.
